Finished Project: Jacques Cousteau Hat

After finishing the Fingerless Gloves for James, he would comment every now and then how he would love a warm toque to wear either to work or during our cold winter nights here in the apartment. I of course agreed to knit him up something.

We both fell in love with the pattern as soon as we saw it. As kids we both watched plenty of Jacques Cousteau on TV with our parents; and although the toque isn't exactly the same due to the different yarn I used we both love it.

Pattern: Jacques Coustea Hat
Yarn: Lion Brand Fishermen's Wool in Nature's Brown, I used about 235 yards.
Needles: 4 mm straight
Mods: I knit 2 rows of stockinette stitch with same sized straight needles and then transferred to the circular ones. I did this because I could not knit the first 2 rows on the circular needles without the yarn twisting.

I had a hard time starting this pattern and had to make a mod because of it. No matter how much care I took the yarn kept twisting during my first 2 rows. I tried tons of different variations in my knitting but nothing helped. I finally realized that the yarn with needles that small just wouldn't stay straight. And so this was the only way to fix the problem.

I wasn't sure how it would look in the end but I kind of like it. And while I love the outcome of this hat I did hate knitting it. The knit 3 purl 2 pattern was a bitch and took for-e-ver to knit. I'm not sure that I would knit this again although I do really like it.
