Blogtoberfest: Day 9

♥♥

I have two books out from the library right now that I am hoping will feed my soul. I've wanted to become healthier and more conscious of the products that I am using in my home as well as the foods that I am eating and both of these books seem to be a great place to start.

So far Green Up your Clean Up is filled with fantastic cleaning advice and it’s mostly products that you already have in your kitchen. For some reason I’ve always been the type that thinks I need to use super harsh chemicals to really clean my home. I know that that way of thinking is wrong and quite frankly dangerous; I just had no idea how to start myself on the right path.

I just brought home A Homemade Life today and have only skimmed through it. The book has some yummy looking recipes and I am looking forward to being able to sit down with some really great tea and read through it. And while this book isn't exactly about healthy eating per se, it is about one woman's journey to heal herself after her father's death. She does this by looking at her close family relations and how the family dinner table has helped tighten those bonds.

Having myself been raised in a family where dinner was eaten together no matter what, and now as an adult I don't even own a dinner table; this is something that is close to my heart. I have always found that when I am going through tough times that I find myself in an introspective space and reanalyzing those things that are important to me. I am hoping that A Homemade Life helps me to re-establish part of what being a family means to me. We’ll see.
