An almost perfect Saturday.

New Haircut, originally uploaded by Melanie Jennifer.

Today has been a day filled with fantastic.

I didn’t get out of bed until extremely late and thought that I had ruined my day. Instead of wallowing I decided to suck it up and force myself to stick to my plans of going to my local yarn store as well as getting a massage.

I wasn’t really sure how long it would take me to get to the yarn store by transit but I decided that I was also overreacting that it would take about an hour and in the end I was overreacting.

I took my first bus with no problem and got to my transfer stop after only 20 minutes. I waited for the next bus for about 5 minutes and decided that since it was such a beautiful fall day that I would walk instead. The Dunbar neighbourhood in Vancouver is one that I’ve driven though loads of times but I’ve never actually stopped to look at all the lovely stores and cafes. The walk was wonderful and it only took me about another 20 minutes to arrive at my destination.

Once there I knew that I would be a bit as although I’ve knit about a dozen different items I still know squat about different yarns. The woman at the store wasn’t that helpful and seemed as though she was in a bad mood. She was rather taken aback that I didn’t bring the patterns that I would be using; although I did bring the information for the type of yarn needed, the needle size as well as the gauge. But in the end I bought two beautiful yarns that were not that expensive and tonight I will start on a pair of fingerless gloves for myself. I am very excited for this project as I can’t remember the last time I knit myself something.

After exploring some wonderful stores in Dunbar I decided to forego transit and walk home the entire way. The sun was warm and bright and the breeze was cool; prefect fall weather. Along the way I picked up some treats for Domino and some yummy treats for me and James in an independent corner store. It was almost like the two I went to as a kid. Plus I went into a used bookstore and browsed the shelves. The shelves were so close together and went off into all sorts of weird angles and hidden corners that I almost felt as though I were in a dungeon. So fun!! I ended up controlling my book lust and just purchased a lovely kids book. As though I don’t have enough already, but really, I can’t help myself when it comes to good condition vintage kids books!

After my excursion I had enough time to eat a banana, kiss my wonderful husband and change my shoes before I left again for my massage. I’ve had a huge kink in my neck for a few days now and Michelle had to really hurt me to work it out. I’m going to be sore tomorrow but it was worth it. I haven’t had a massage with Michelle since last November. I missed her and I’m glad I pushed aside the infertility issues to see her again. It’s a long story but essentially we both started trying to get pregnant at the same time and she just had her baby last January. It’s sucky to say but it was really hard for me going through the thick of the Specialists and having surgery and hearing all the bad news and then go for a massage, which was supposed to be my downtime, and have a pregnant RMT treat me. But I’m over it now and hopefully things will start getting better in the stress department.

So all-in-all ~ a fantastic day!!
