My knitting is going slowly but surely. I think the last time I knit was back in 2006 maybe? So my knitting is very slow. That plus I am an easily distracted person.
Yesterday I had a list of things that needed doing but I decided to put those things on hold and just relax for the day. And so I put on 16 Candles and knit through the movie. I then put on Viva La Vida and knit through that.
I find that if I don’t have something to stimulate me while knitting that I can only last maybe 20 minutes until I get bored and need to do something else. So maybe the stimulus is also a cause for me to knit more slowly but I know that over the next few months that my knitting speed will pick up.
After dinner we put on Paris, je t'aime* and I started James Fingerless Gloves. I love the contrast between the gloves and the prayer shawl.
With the shawl it is being knit on size 11 needles and so the pattern is coming out loose and snuggly. It’s hard to see any mistakes I may make and more forgiving. While the gloves are being knit with size 7 needles and is knit in a simple garter stitch which results in a much tighter pattern that is easy to see the actual stitches. The gloves should knit up in no time because they are just plain garter stitch. This is a definite plus!
James was all confused at first and asked why I stopped working on the prayer shawl. I simply explained that I wanted results right away and while I love knitting prayer shawls it is going to take at least a month to see any results. And that the gloves I can have done in less than a week.
*The movie Paris Je t’aime is such a wonderful surprise! I HIGHLY recommend that you watch it. It is a collaboration movie with different international directors creating 18 short films about Paris. Each director has done a 5 minute movie to represent the city. They are all so unique and brilliant. Some are amazing, some funny, some plain weird and some heartbreaking. James and I both love short stories and so this was a short story movie. Wonderful! I can’t stop gushing about this movie.
